AAI to renew selection policy after trip cancellation
The Archery Association of India (AAI) has decided to rework their selection policy for sending contingents to major tournaments after top archers were forced to return from the airport last week. The association would now have three sets of teams – A, B, and C - to send to upcoming World Cups.
After the confusion pertaining to archers participating in the Medelin World Cup, Colombia, the national association has now been forced to rework a new selection policy, as per TOI reports.Â
It would now send A-list archers to the second stage of the Shanghai World Cup from May 6 to 12, which was previously being attended by a B team that comprised of second-rung and junior archers.
The third stage of the World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, which has been scheduled from May 20 to 26, could now see a third team consisting of a mixed team, which will have both senior and junior archers, and could be including top recurve archers.
TOI has also reported that AAI president BVP Rao could soon make the decision public after consulting his executive committee members as per an AAI official.
"Now that nothing can be done about the Medellin World Cup, the AAI has decided to revisit its selection policy and try to figure out a way to allow our archers, who missed Medellin, to compete at the next two stages of the World Cup, starting with Shanghai,” said an AAI official, TOI reported.
"It's important for our senior archers and medal prospects to get into the Olympics mindset by competing in these World Cups," the official added.
