Indian javelin thrower Annu Rani has bagged a bronze medal at the Ostrava Golden Spike Athletics meet in the Czech Republic. The Golden Spike Athletics meet in Ostrava is an International Association of Athletics Federations World Challenge event and Rani is the only Indian medal winner there.

Annu Rani brought laurels for India in world athletics as she became the only Indian javelin thrower to bag a medal in women’s javelin throw at the Golden Spike Athletics meet in Ostrava. She claimed the third position in the meet with her best throw of 60.20m on Thursday. The other two throws of Rani were 59.91 and 59.89 metres in the final round of the competition.

The 26-year-old Indian athlete has also booked a place in the upcoming World Athletics Championships which will be played in Doha this September. Rani had also won a silver medal at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships earlier in April this year after a sensational show at the Federation Cup where she got past her own national record in women’s javelin throw. She currently holds the national record in javelin throw with her personal best of 62.34m in the Federation Cup in Patiala.

Croatia’s Sara Kolak won the gold medal while Martina Ratej of Slovenia bagged the silver. In the men’s category, India’s Shivpal Singh had finished eighth with a second-round throw of 79.69m.
