National athletics coach Bahadur Singh has stated that Neeraj Chopra shouldn’t rush for the World Championships and his injury must be treated carefully. Chopra developed pain in his elbow while he was practising at the NIS, Patiala in April and had to miss the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships.

Neeraj Chopra has been one of the finest athletes in the country for a couple of years now. He impressed one and all with his impressive run in 2018 where he clinched gold medals for India in the Javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. However, the year 2019 has not been a great one for the 21-year-old athlete as he is suffering from an injury ahead of the World Athletics Championships to be held in September and October this year.

However, the head coach of the Indian athletes Bahadur Singh has clearly mentioned that Chopra shouldn’t be rushed back from the injury and there is a need of being careful during the javelin thrower’s injury treatment.

“Neeraj is in Mumbai now, consulting a renowned doctor there and what is the future course of action will be known only after the medical reports have come. He should be careful and should not rush himself into competitions,” Bahadur told PTI.

“His injury should be treated carefully. If you ask me, I will say that he should skip the World Championships if he is not fully fit by that time.”

Chopra had developed pain in his elbow while preparing for the Asian Athletics Championships at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala and as a result of which he had to skip the 23rd edition of the Asian Championships in Doha last month. Chopra had bagged a gold medal at the previous edition of the Championships in 2017. With the Olympics scheduled to be held next year in Tokyo, the head athletics coach wants the youngster to be careful.

“Neeraj is a bright prospect for an Olympic medal and he should deal with this injury very carefully. Olympics is the most important event for him,” Bahadur said.
