Eurasian Athletics Championships | Sreekiran and Rohit Yadav bag gold medals for India on Thursday

Indian junior athlete Sreekiran has clinched a gold medal in the boys’ 800m category at the Under-20 Eurasian Athletics Championships held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Thursday. Rohit Yadav also added a yellow metal in India’s medal tally as he topped the chart in the boy’s javelin throw event.

Indian junior athletes had a great outing at the two-day Eurasian Athletics Championships in Kazakhstan as they finished the event with a total of six gold medals. After three of them on the opening day of the competition on Wednesday, Sreekiran and Rohit Yadav added two more to take India’s tally to five gold medals on Thursday. The mixed relay team also finished first in the 4X400m final.

Sreekiran won the boys’ 800m race by clocking 1:54.62 while Rohit cleared a distance of 74.55m to finish at the top in the boy’s javelin throw event. The Indian mixed relay team also had a great day as they claimed the gold medal in the 4x400m mixed relay with a timing of 3:30.58s. The team comprised Abdul Razak, Priscilla Daniel, Florence Barla and Vikrant Panchal.

The U-20 athletics teams from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, India and Tajikistan participated in the competition which was held for the last two days in Almaty. On Wednesday, India’s Gurvinder Singh and Vikrant Panchal bagged gold medals in the boy’s 100m and 400m race. Meanwhile, in the girl’400m final, Florence Barla clocked 54.73 seconds to win the gold.

Abdul Razak, Priscilla Daniel and Sahil Silwal bagged the three silver medals for India in boy’s 400m, girl’s 800m and boy’s javelin throw events respectively in the Championships.
