Indian para-athletes Aneesh Kumar Surendran Pillai and Virender dominated the shot put events as they claimed gold medals in the disabled men’s IF1 and IF5 categories respectively at the ongoing World Military Games. On the other hand, boxer Deepak made it to the light-weight semi-finals.

Aneesh Kumar Surendran Pillai starred in the disabled men’s shot put IF1 category final as he bagged the gold medal. Pillai registered his best throw of 12.76 metres in the fourth of his six attempts on Wednesday at the seventh edition of the CISM World Military Games in Wuhan, China. Peru’s Felipa Carlos finished second while Severs Robert of The Netherlands claimed the bronze medal.

Virender added one more gold medal by finishing first in the men’s disabled shot put IF5 final. His best throw was of 11.43m, which helped him get the better of France’s Marfil Nicolas and Suma Piero Rosario of Italy, who finished second and third respectively in the event.

In shooting, India failed to grab a bronze medal as the trio of Yogesh Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Omkar Singh finished fourth behind Ukraine, Korea and China in the 25m center fire pistol men’s team event.

However, Deepak brought the good news in men’s boxing by qualifying for the semi-finals. The Indian pugilist outplayed his opponent Saehan Samak of Thailand in the light-weight quarter-final bout with a unanimous 5-0 win. On the other hand, Amit Panghal and Satish Kumar were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the men’s fly (49-52kg) and super-heavy (+91kg) categories respectively.

In men’s wrestling, Gyanender missed a chance to bag the third place in the Greco-roman 60kg as he lost 2-6 to Kazakh wrestler Sultangali Aidos.
