Tejinderpal Singh Toor wins shot put silver in Czech Republic
Tejinderpal Singh Toor ended up as the runner-up in the shot put event at the athletics meet in the Czech Republic but failed to match the qualifying standards of the World Athletics Championships to be held in Doha. However, he had already qualified for the tournament earlier in the year.
With a best throw of 20.09m on his last attempt, Tejinderpal Singh Toor claimed a prestigious silver medal in the athletics meet being held in Decin, Czech Republic. However, he missed the World Championships qualifying mark by quite some distance, with it having been set at 20.70m for males by the IAAF.
The 24-year-old had won the gold in the Asian Games last year held in Jakarta, before replicating the feat in the Asian Athletics Championship earlier this year in April. This made him eligible for participating in the World Athletics Championships in Doha, scheduled to be held from September 27 to October 6, on the virtue of being the Asia champion.
He was recognized with the Arjuna Award this year and is a national record holder with a personal best of 20.75m. Having achieved much success on the national and continental stage, he will be looking forward to making the country proud on the global stage yet again.
