PV Sindhu has insisted that she isn’t perturbed by the losses at the Malaysia and Singapore Opens claiming that she is focused only on doing her best. Sindhu achieved a career-high ranking of No. 2 by winning the India Open but has since dropped three places after early exits in successive events.
Sindhu was in a rather philosophical mood speaking to TOI about her recent results as she was quoted as saying, "Winning or losing is part of life. Sometimes you will win, sometimes you will lose."
More importantly, the 21-year old doesn’t want to burden herself by thinking too much about the world rankings as the rankings are bound to improve as long as she keeps doing her best. "If you play well and give your best, it automatically gets your ranking up." Despite relatively early exits in tournaments since her India Open Superseries triumph, Sindhu is looking forward to the Asia Badminton Championships to be played in China from April 25th to 30th.
Further, Sindhu has developed a rivalry with Carolina Marin ever since the Spaniard beat her to the Olympic gold in Rio last year. But Sindhu got her revenge by beating Marin at the Dubai Super Series final last year and also got the better of the Spaniard to win the India Open this year. However, the former World No. 1, Marin, beat Sindhu out 11-21, 15-21 in the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open to take a 6-5 lead in the overall head to head encounters between the duo.
"I have beaten her sometimes, I have lost to her sometimes. It's all part of the game," Sindhu said when asked about here rivalry with Marin.
However, despite their epic rivalry Sindhu and Marin have maintained a warm equation off the court and also revealed that they are normal friends off-court. "On-court we fight each other because only one can win."
After becoming the first Indian woman to secure an Olympic silver in badminton, Sindhu added another feather to her cap by bagging her maiden Super Series Premier title when she won the China Open. Her series of wins made her only the second Indian woman to enter the top-five of the world rankings, after her illustrious compatriot Saina Nehwal.
