Vietnam Open 2018 | Ajay Jayaram, Siril Verma, and Rituparna Das shine on Day 1

Indian shuttlers Ajay Jayaram, Siril Verma, and Rituparna Das have made it to the next round of the 2018 Vietnam Open after winning their respective matches in the singles category on Day 1. The other Indians shuttlers, particularly the doubles players, also impressed on Day 1 of the Tour 100 event.

In the men’s singles category, Ajay Jayaram overpowered Vietnam’s Le Duc Phat 21-19, 21-12 as the match lasted 31 minutes. His compatriot Siril Verma was impressive as well defeating local star Thu Thao Nguyen in straight games of 21-8, 21-8. The 24-year-old N.V.S Vijetha did not disappoint as he managed to secure victory against Thien Loc Nguyen in consecutive games of 21-17, 21-13.

In women’s singles category, Rituparna Das beat Liang Ting Yu in straight games of 21-13, 21-17. On the other hand, fellow countrywoman Shreyanshi Pardeshi had to fight hard to overcome Tang Wan Yi 21-19, 23-21.

In the mixed doubles category, Dhruv Kapila along with Meghana Jakkampudi vanquished the duo Chaloempon and Rawimon from Thailand 21-18, 21-17. However, it was not a cakewalk for Dhruv and his partner Krishna Garaga as they defeated the Singaporean duo Jiang Lee and Guang Liang Jason Wong 16-21, 21-17, 21-12 in the men’s doubles event. Finally, Dhruv sealed his third victory of the day, defeating Fang-Chih Lee and Chang Hsin Tien by 2 games to 1, along with his partner Meghana.
