Indian shuttler Ajay Jayaram has bagged the silver medal after losing to Indonesia’s Shesar Hiren Rhustavito in the final match of the Vietnam Open 2018. Following the defeat in the finals, Jayaram has taken his tally of silver medals to two with consecutive runner-up finishes in a span of a month.

The 30-year-old had an impressive tournament before losing 14-21 10-21 to Rhustavito in a 28-minute clash at the USD 75,000 BWF Tour Super 100 tournament. It was a second consecutive runner-up finish for Jayaram on the circuit as he had also reached the final at the White Nights International Challenge, last month. The Indian shuttler never managed to get the lead throughout the match but came close on a couple of occasions. His efforts were not enough as Rhustavito secured gold by winning two straight games.

Jayaram, who is making a comeback after recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered last year, had defeated seventh seed Yu Igarashi of Japan 21-14 21-19 in the semifinals yesterday. On the other hand, world number 79 Shesar, who had won four consecutive Indonesia International tournament, got the better of India’s Mithun Manjunath 21-17 19-21 21-14 in the semifinals.
