India’s women’s singles badminton player PV Sindhu was drawn in the “group of death” for the 2018 BWF World Tour Finals which will be held at Guangzhou in China. The Indian star will have to go through the likes of Akane Yamaguchi, Tai Tzu Ying, and Beiwen Zhang to make it into the knockouts.

PV Sindhu in the women’s singles and Sameer Verma in the men’s singles got tough draws in their respective categories at the 2018 BWF World Tour Finals which will be held at Tianhe in Guangzhou, China. Pv Sindhu has been put alongside the defending champion Akane Yamaguchi, World No.1 Tai Tzu Ying and Beiwen Zhang.

The competitiveness in the group can be assessed from the fact that Sindhu is ranked third in BWF women’s singles world ranking whereas Tai Tzu Ying and Akane Yamaguchi are first and second respectively. Bewei Zhang is the only member out of the first five ranking as the American is ranked eleventh in the world but has had Sindhu's number in the recent past.

On the other hand, in the men’s singles category Sameer Verma, though not in a group of death but is in a tough grouping where he will have to play against the likes of Kento Momota from Japan and Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia. Kento Momota off late has been a really good form winning the Asian and World Championships earlier this year.

The groups are set such that the top two players or pairs from each group formed will qualify for the semi-finals, for which a knockout draw will be conducted. PV Sindhu will have to come really good to reach the semi-finals and a similar performance will be needed by Verma who made it to the World Tour Final by winning the Syed Modi Championship held last month in India.
