While match-fixing in cricket is very familiar to people, other sports, basically badminton has been very clean. However, Wei, considered as one of the all-time greats of the game, talked about the fixing in badminton. Without giving depth details, he revealed that a few years back, a match-fixer approached him but he denied without giving a second thought as he prioritized the sport before money.

Last week, news broke out that two Malaysian players were being investigated by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for their suspicious role in match-fixing. The pair may face a life ban if they found guilty in the BWF hearing which will take place in Singapore later this month. The 35-year-old seemed upset after the incident as he said it would affect Malaysia’s reputation in World Badminton.

The Malaysian officials refused to reveal or even give any details about the two players who are involved in the case. But according to the reports, one of them is a former top junior player and another had participated in the Thomas Cup which has been considered as a reputed team event in badminton.

It was not the first time when the game was hit by match-fixing as in 2012 Olympics, eight women’s doubles players were disqualified as they tried to lose group matches in the hope of getting an easy quarter-final draw. The BWF asked the police to investigate on Danish players’ Hans-Kristian Vittinghus and Kim Astrup claimed in 2014 as they said they were contacted by a Malaysian fixer who said them to throw matches.
