PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will lead the Indian charge at the Indonesia Open after men’s title-favourite Kidambi Srikanth bowed out of the tournament in the first round. Sindhu will lock horns with Aya Ohori of Japan after beating Pornpawee Chochuwong in the first round of the competition.
Sindhu had to break a sweat in the first round of the tournament despite having a confident start to the game. Chochuwong gave a brilliant counter-attack to the World Championship silver medalist in the second game after losing the first one 15-21. Sindhu, however, returned to showcase her temperament in the third game to win the match to progress to the third round.
Her opponent for the today, Aya Ohori also had a strong opponent in the opening game in the form of Beiwen Zhang, who lost her temperament in the final game and bowed out from the tournament with a 21-15, 21-23, 21-11 loss. However, Ohori will be under complete pressure in the round two match against the Indian, who has 4-0 head-to-head record over her with the last loss being as early as last week’s Malaysia Open in which Sindhu scampered home with a hard-fought 26-24, 21-15 victory.
