Thailand Open | PV Sindhu advances to quarter-finals; Prannoy and Kashyap crash out

PV Sindhu sealed a spot in the quarter-finals of the Thailand Open as she defeated Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong by a margin of 21-18, 21-14. However, male shuttlers HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap got knocked out by Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia and Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan respectively.
2018 CWG gold medallist, PV Sindhu continued her impressive run at the ongoing Thailand Open BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament. Sindhu beat Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong in the round of 16
On the other hand, after a convincing win in the round of 32 against Pablo Abian of Spain, HS Prannoy endured a rather frustrating outing against Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in the pre-quarterfinals. Kuncoro raced away to a straight set 21-18, 21-14 victory, which spelled the end for Kashyap’s tournament in Thailand.
Meanwhile, compatriot Paruapalli Kashyap saw something of a similar day out as he lost to Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan by a scoreline of 21-18, 18-21, 21-19. The Japanese international was made to work hard as Kashyap recovered in the second game before the Indian was left frustrated in the final game of the match.
In the men’s doubles event, the Indian combination of Sumeth Reddy and Attri Manu bowed out of the tournament in a straight-set loss to Japanese combo of Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe who won by a scoreline of 21-13, 21-19.
The talented Indian mixed doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were also knocked out of the tournament at the hands of Japanese duo - Yuki Kaneko and Mayu Matsumoto. The Japanese pair beat Ponnappa-Reddy in straight sets by a scoreline of 21-11, 21-16.
