Sai Praneeth, who beat Kidambi Srikanth in last year's final, is set to defend his title as Singapore Open Champions to be held at the Singapore Indoor stadium from July 17. Besides India, Hong Kong and England also confirmed their respective entries for the tournament, as announced by organizers.

Sai Praneeth is no stranger to the Singapore Badminton Open as he had emerged victorious in the tournament of 2017. This year, the organizers of the tournament announced the return of the defending champion who said that he will do his best to strike gold again in the tournament to be held in Singapore.

The Indian shuttler defeated his teammate Kidambi Srikanth 17-21, 21-17, 21-12 to win his maiden Superseries title in 2017. He followed this up with a win at the Thailand Open as well.

"2017 was a wonderful year for me, capping it off with a gold at the Singapore Badminton Open was a great reward for my hard work," Praneeth said, reported Straitstimes.

"Defending my title this year is going to be challenging, but I will make my fans proud."

Praneeth will be a part of the 18-strong Indian contingent which will also feature India's top-ranked women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Sikki Reddy, men's World No. 40 Parupalli Kashyap and women's World No.91 Mugdha Agrey.

On Monday, Hong Kong and England also confirmed their entries for the tournament. England will feature a 13-strong squad including mixed doubles World No.9 duo of Chris and Gabrielle Adcock.
