Saina Nehwal, who bagged two golds in Gold Coast CWG and a bronze in the Asiad in Jakarta, claimed that she could have done better this season had she not been on a packed schedule this year. Nehwal added that she was extremely proud of her medals in the two inter continentals she played in.

Nehwal has had quite a productive year so far and has made it to four finals this year which includes the 2018 Gold Coast CWG and the Asiad Games earlier this year. Nehwal has blamed a tough schedule in the past year as the reason for a slight fatigue towards the end of the year.

ā€œIt is definitely a tough year. Throughout there were so many big tournaments and we did not even have time to rest and think about the next event.

ā€œWe had the Commonwealth Games, then in five-ten days, we had Asian Championships, then within one-two months, we had Asian Games and the World Championships and of course our Super Series events. That way, sometimes it is not easy. At times, one does not feel like playing,ā€ ā€Saina said, speaking at an event in Mumbai.

Saina, who was atĀ anĀ event of being appointed as brand ambassador by Rasna, added that players are under immense pressure most of the year and said she was proud of her medals in the two inter-continental competitions.

ā€œBut you need to fight it out, wondering what the people and coach will say. The stress is so much that no matter how much a player tries to reach semis or quarters, at times the fatigue level makes you low.

ā€œI am very proud of the result in the Asian and Commonwealth Games and that I could bring medals in both. As the chance comes once in four years, it is something every player dreams of.

ā€œI know what people think and how they write about performances of Indian players. I can understand the situation of (PV) Sindhu, (Kidambi) Srikanthā€¦we all have played so many tournaments, somewhere it gets to the body and mind. Itā€™s not easy to perform back to back. We need a breakā€¦.there were 17-18 tournaments a year and itā€™s so challenging. Where is the time to even correct yourself?ā€ added Saina.
