Dutch Open 2018 | Sourabh Verma beats Malaysia’s June Wei Cheam to win title

Sourabh Verma battled an ankle injury to win his second title of the year in Dutch Open as he defeated Malaysia's JuneWei Cheam in straight sets. The World No 67, who had also won the Russia Open earlier this year, had a pretty one-sided match in the finale winning the match 21-19, 21-13.
The Indian shuttler went pretty much untroubled throughout the BWF World Tour Super 100 tournament except for the quarter-finals on October 13, where he took on France’s Thomas Rouxel. It was the only game that went to the decider as Verma had to sweat to win 21-16, 16-21, 21-19.
In the final on Sunday, Verma and June went neck and neck up to the first interval, before the 25-year Indian shuttler opened up a small gap and maintained it till the end, winning the first game 21-19. Moving to the second set, Verma took a healthy lead early on (11-4) at the interval and never let it reduce as such, eventually taking the game 21-13 and winning the title.Â
The women’s singles title was won by top seed Mia Blichfelt of Denmark, who defeated China’s Qi Xuefei scoring 21-16, 21-18 to bag the Dutch open title. Bulgaria’s Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva, the top seeds, won the women’s doubles title after beating local pair Selena Piek and Cheryl Seinen 21-17, 21-18 in the final.
The mixed doubles title was also bagged by top seeds, England’s Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith, who beat France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue 21-15, 21-15 in the final. Indonesia’s Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pangkaryanira and Ade Yusuf Santoso, the second seeds, won the men’s doubles title after beating local pair Jelle Maas and Robin Tabeling 21-19, 17-21, 21-11 in the final.
