Kidambi Srikanth registered a memorable 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 win against the Legendary Lin Dan of China in the second round of the men’s singles category at the Denmark Open on Thursday. Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal beat Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in straight games to progress to the quarter-finals.

In the men’s singles category, Kidambi Srikanth outplayed the legendary Lin Dan of China in a hard-fought win at this year’s Denmark Open. After losing the first game 18-21, Srikanth fought back to win the match in consecutive sets by a margin of 21-17, 21-16. Seventh Seed Srikanth took one hour and three minutes to register a thrilling win over world No.12 Lin Dan.

Meanwhile, compatriot Sameer Verma also secured another tough 23-21, 6-21, 22-20 victory against Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie in a match that went on for one hour-10 minutes. In doing so, Verma booked a quarter-final match against Srikanth which will see the two leading Indian shuttlers go up against each other in Denmark.

Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal defeated world number two, Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, for the first time in four years to enter the quarterfinals of the Denmark Open. Nehwal defeated the Japanese international in straight sets by a scoreline of 21-15, 21-17 in a match that lasted 36 minutes in Odense on Thursday night. The last time Saina beat Yamaguchi was in the China Open back in 2014. The former world number one will go up against another Japanese player, Nozomi Okuhara in the quarters.

In the women’s doubles event, Unseeded pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy knocked out seventh seeded south Koreans Lee So Hee and Shing Seung Chan after they won by a scoreline 18-21, 22-20, 21-18. The Indian duo put up a spirited performance to bounce back from a loss in the first game to seal a quarter-final berth in a match that went on for an hour.
