Sindhu started her campaign against an inexperienced Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky from Indonesia and was always expected to end up victorious in the end of the battle. The good thing was, she started exactly the same way as the whole match didn’t last even half an hour with Sindhu racing past the 22-year-old 21-9, 21-7 to book a place in the pre-quarterfinals.

Sindhu was up against the Danish prodigy Mia Blichfeldt in the pre-quarters where the world No. 4 was expected to dig deep for a win. And yet again, Sindhu maintained her stature by eliminating the youngster 21-13, 21-19 to set up a quarter-final clash against China’s Cai Yanyan.

Against the Chinese too, Sindhu was the favourite to go through but she made things difficult for herself. After winning the first game easily, with the scoreline of 21-13, Sindhu saw a setback in the second game as she lost 17-21. However, she came back stronger in the decider winning it 21-14 and in the process set up a semi-final against Okuhara.

They have met 13 times before with Sindhu winning seven times. The Indian would be more confident as she as the psychological advantage of winning the last two clashes in 2018 World Championships and the year ending World Tour finals.
