Rashi Lambe and Ritika Thaker crowned Maharashtra Senior State champions

Rashi Lambe and Ritika Thaker, along with their partners, emerged victorious in their respective categories at the Maharashtra Senior State Championships held in Nagpur on Sunday. Meanwhile, Nagpur announced the district U-17 badminton team for the Maharashtra Inter-State Badminton Championship.

Mumbai's Rashi Lambe along with her partner Akshan Shetty of Mumbai Suburban caused a major upset in the final of the mixed doubles category as they defeated top seeds Deep Rambhiya and Pooja Devlekar of Mumbai Suburban 13-21, 21-18, 21-19 to clinch the title in 52 minutes.

Rashi, who is coached by international badminton player Kiran Makode, had earlier represented the Indian team which participated at the Junior World Championship held in Canada in 2018.

In addition to that, Thane natives Ritika Thaker and Simran surprised top seeds Mrunmayi Saoji of Nagpur and Manasi Gadgil of Pune by a 21-10, 21-12 margin in a match lasted 35 minutes to claim the title. Last year, the eighteen-year-olds Ritika and Simran had set a new record as they became the youngest doubles champions in the senior state championships at Latur. 

Meanwhile, they also announced the Nagpur district U-17 team also revealed the Yonex-Sunrise Maharashtra Sub-Junior Inter-State Badminton Championship slated to be held at Thane from August 19 onwards.
