While most of the doubles pairs had to bow out on the second round of the championships, India’s singles stars have pretty much been solid in their performances. However, the challenge only gets tougher from here and HS Prannoy would have the toughest against World No.1 Kento Momota.
After getting the better of Chinese legend Lin Dan in the last round, Prannoy would be brimming with confidence for sure, but the ball game would be totally different against the Japanese World No. 1 Kento Momota. He has been a thorn against Indian shuttlers for long now and Prannoy could be just another casualty for him.
B Sai Praneeth would be up against Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting and if not as difficult as Momota, but the Indonesian has proven to be one of the most persistent shuttlers from the Asian Games. Praneeth would need to give his all for it. Indian no.1 Kidambi Srikanth would be up against Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen and should be the easier draw amongst his compatriots.
In women’s draw, PV Sindhu would be up against 12th seeded Mia Blichfeldt and although the Danish shuttler has been underwhelming against the Indian opponents, she has been consistently getting into knockouts since the beginning of this year.
India’s biggest hope in the tournament, PV Sindhu would be taking on old foe Beiwan Zhang. The ninth American might not be the strongest shuttler out there but has enough experience to overcome Sindhu if the opportunity arises.Â
