Pullela Gopichand had hoped that India can shake off their All England Open jinx and that one of the three Indian players can win the premier tournament this year. Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, and Kidambi Srikanth will be participating in the international competition later this year.
The Indian badminton team will head to Europe in March and will hope to end an 18-year old jinx and try and win a title at the All England Open this year. In a recent interview with PTI reporters on Monday, India chief national coach Pullela Gopichand, who is the last Indian player to have won the title, hopes that an Indian player can be crowned as champion in the international BWF tournament later this year.
"I hope that we have one of our players win the All-England tournament this time around. We have had good performances by Saina (Nehwal), (P V)Sindhu and (Kidambi) Srikanth has also been in good form. I do expect that we will have a good performance in this year's All-England.
"Going in Saina has just won the Indonesian open and Sindhu has also done well. So, I think both of them can do well at the All England as well. Hopefully, we will have some good performances from our players. It is almost 18 years now and I hope that this year we can break the jinx," Gopichand told PTI sources.
