Wimbledon 2019 | Divij Sharan, Marcelo Demoliner win first round match in men’s doubles

India’s Divij Sharan and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner have started the Wimbledon campaign on a high note by beating French Open winners Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies. The Indo-Brazilian pair won their first match of the Grand Slam in three sets 7-5, 6-4, 7-5 to reach the second round.

Finally, the Indian tennis fans have got something to cheer for as Divij Sharan won his first round men’s doubles encounter with his partner from Brazil Marcelo Demoliner. The duo got the better of 13th seeds Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies in three sets 7-5, 6-4, 7-5. They have now reached the second round of the ongoing Grand Slam by beating the French Open men’s doubles title holders.

On the other hand, the all Indian duo of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja couldn’t make it to the second round. The pair lost to Australia’s Jordan Thompson and Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 3-6, 2-6 in the first round of men’s doubles in Wimbledon 2019.

Earlier in the tournament, India’s top-ranked singles tennis player Prajnesh Gunneswaran had crashed out in the first round of the men’s singles event. Gunneswaran was beaten by 15th seeded Milos Raonic in three sets 6-7 (1), 4-6, 2-6 and failed to make it to the second round of the competition.
