Swiss Open | B Sai Praneeth to clash with Sameer Verma in all Indian pre-quarters

Sameer Verma overcame the challenge of Ajay Jayram in straight games, while B Sai Praneeth got walkover by an injured England’s Rajiv Oushep to set up a pre-quarter final. The men’s doubles duo of Pranav Jerry Chopra and Chirag Shetty advanced to the next round by beating Astrup and Rasmussen.
The Indian contingent had a good day in the office as most of them started on a winning note after the unfortunate news of Saina Nehwal pulling out of the tournament with an intestinal infection. In the men’s singles, World No. 5 Ouseph had to pull out midway with an injury in the first game where he was trailing 5-11 against World No. 11 Sai Praneeth.Â
Verma, however, had to beat Jayram 21-18, 21-15 to advance in straight sets and will be playing Praneeth in the next round. Parupalli Kashyap overcame the challenge of Sweden’s Felix Burestedt 21-19, 21-17 to set up a match with Mark Caljouw of Netherland. Subhankar Dey also followed suit as he defeated France’s Lucas Claerbout 21-19, 21-17, and will be facing another Frenchman in Lucas Corvee.
In the absence of Nehwal, the women’s category has only one Indian left in Riya Mookerjee, who overcame the challenge of Bulgaria’s Linda Zetchiri in a three-gamer to win 21-23, 21-15, 21-8.
The men’s doubles duo saw a good game by all the three pairs remaining. While Arun George and Sanyam Shukla beat Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han 21-16, 21-9, Krishna Prasad and Dhruv Kapila defeated Nicolas Mueller and Julien Schweiwiller 21-13, 21-12. Though the star of pair of Chopra/Shetty defeated Astrup/Rasmussen 21-16, 21-8, the pair of Mau Attri and Sumeeth Reddy went down to David Daugaard and Frederik Sogaard 18-21, 21-17, 21-10.
The women’s pair of Ashwini Ponappa and N. Sikki Reddy defeated Russia’s Olga Morozova and Anastasiia Akchurina 21-16, 21-17, while Sikki Reddt paired with Chopra to set up yet another all Indian pre-quarters with MR Arjun and Maneesha K.
