Indian shuttlers Kiran George and BM Rahul Bharadwaj have won their respective first-round matches convincingly at the ongoing SaarLorLux Open Badminton tournament in Saarbrucken, Germany. India’s mixed doubles duo of Rohan Kapoor and Sanjana Santosh have bowed out from the tournament.

Indian men’s singles shuttlers had a great time on Tuesday at the SaarLorLux Open Super Tour 100 as they registered easy wins in their respective opening round matches. Kiran George got the better of China’s Liu Hai Chao in straight games 21-17, 21-13 to storm into the second round of the competition. Rahul Bharadwaj also dominated against his Belgian opponent in the last tie of the day and went into round 2 with a 21-15, 21-9 win.

However, in the mixed doubles events, Indian pair of Rohan Kapoor and Sanjana Santosh lost 19-21 21-13 14-21 to Eloi Adam and Margot Lambert. The match went for 51 minutes but the Indian duo was not able to reach the next round.

Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen and Mithun Manjunath have received byes in the opening round and will now be seen battling it out in the second. In women’s singles, Saina Nehwal decided not to take part in the competition and is likely to play the upcoming China Open next.
