The International Boxing Association is confident about the progress it has made in order to make boxing a part of next year's Olympics in Tokyo. The International Olympics committee is investigating the Amateur Boxing body as the latter has stopped preparations for boxing at the Olympics.

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is confident about the measures it has taken to not being thrown out of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Earlier, the International Olympic Committee started investigations into the AIBA stopping preparations for the Olympic Games, leading to a warning that it could be stripped off the right to take part in the competition. Since the investigations started the two bodies have not met each other and there is no meeting planned in the near future according to AIBA executive director Tom Virgets.

“There is no meeting planned with the IOC up to now. AIBA is preparing documents to present that will address the additional advances that we have made on every question and area that the IOC has asked us to report on. AIBA is transparent, and wants to be an open book. We have nothing to hide,” AIBA executive director Tom Virgets told AFP.

Virgets also explained that once all the documents are studied, the meeting will take place eventually. He also stated that they are confident that they will ensure that boxing takes place in the upcoming Olympics.

“(Meeting will be held) once all the documents and responses we have from AIBA have been studied.”

“We anticipate that the IOC’s concerns will centre on how AIBA is progressing in all of the areas they focused upon in the past, and I am confident that we will be able to show continued improvements in all areas,” Virgets added.

Relations between the two aforementioned bodies are strained since the Rio Olympics when 36 officials and referees were suspended for their involvement in bout fixing. But the boxing body assured that the boxing event will take place in Olympics regardless of those measures.

“All efforts to protect the athletes and ensure that a boxing tournament can take place at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 regardless of these measures.”
