Vojvodina Int’l | Indian pugilists win four silver medals

Young Indian boxers lit up the Vojvodina Int’l on Sunday as they ended up with as many as four silver medals to finish the tournament being held in Serbia. The international junior tournament saw 22 countries competing that included Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, and more.

India had done brilliantly throughout the tournament and had a real chance to clinch the yellow metal as the likes of Seloy Soy, Bilotson L. Singh, Ajay Kumar, and Vijaydeep all reached the summit clash. However, in quite a stunning fashion, all the four lost their respective bouts on Sunday.

As a result, Seloy Soy, who was competing in the 49kg category, Bilotson L. Singh, who was playing in the 56kg, Ajay Kumar and Vijaydeep, who had reached the final of the 60kg and the 69kg category had to be happy with silver medals.

While Sony went down 0-5 to Omer Ametovic, Singh was outplayed by Russia’s Boris Karibian with a clear unanimous verdict. Kumar didn’t see a different outcome Croat Diego Mamic although Vijaydeep came close to change his fate before he eventually failed 2-3 to Kazakhstan’s Azamat Bektas. Prior to that, Harsh Gill of the 91kg category had lost to Turkey’s Topaloglu Abuzer to win a bronze. 

The 37th Golden Glove of Vojvodina International, held in Serbia had 22 countries featuring the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, and Kazakhstan.
