Vijender Singh to begin US Pro Boxing career on April 12
India’s sole Olympic medalist in boxing, Vijender Singh, is scheduled to make his debut on the American professional circuit on April 12 against an undecided opponent. Singh is currently training under Hall of Famer Freddie Roach who has previously coached the likes of Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao.
India’s prized boxing asset, Vijender Singh, who became the first Indian boxer to win a medal in the Olympic Games back in the 2008 Beijing Games bid adieu to his amateur boxing career by turning professional as he signed a multi-year agreement with Queensberry Promotions through IOS Sports and Entertainment.
Vijender, who is yet to taste defeat in his 10-bout pro career, is set to make his debut in the American Professional Boxing circuit on April 12. Although Singh’s opponent is yet to be decided, he will definitely make his US debut at the Staples Center on the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Anthony Crolla undercard. Singh’s debut bout will be an eight-round contest and his opponent will be announced later.
The Olympic bronze medalist is currently training under Hall of Famer, Freddie Roach, who has previously coached the likes of Mike Tyson and Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao. The 33-year-old Vijender recently relocated his training base to Los Angeles where he is training at the 'The Wild Card Boxing Club' under Roach.
Roach has been a mentor to 36 world champions and has also trained former junior welterweight champion
