Vladimir Kramnix to train six Indian youngsters in Geneva
Chess grandmaster and former world champion Vladimir Kramnix will be training the likes of grandmaster Praggnaanandhaa and D Gukesh among others for a little more than 10 days next month. He has stated that India has a very promising future and wants to share his knowledge with budding players.
Vladimir Kramnix will be joined by six Indian emerging stars in Switzerland from August 14 to August 25 as they will be seeking his guidance to improve their game. The group consists of grandmasters Praggnanandhaa and D Gukesh along with Iniyan, Arjun Erigaisi, Raunak Sadhwani, and Leon Mendonca. 15-year-old Nihal Sarin, one of the youngest grandmasters in the history of the game, will unfortunately not be able to join the group due to some prior commitments.
“I think India has the strongest generation in the world right now, maybe the strongest ever in one country. India has got some really very talented kids with a very big potential of being top players, maybe even World Champions in the future,” Kramnik said, reported Scroll.in.
The 44-year-old grandmaster announced his retirement as a professional player earlier this year, intending to focus on teaching the future generations about the intricacies of the game. Kramnik has in the past been ranked number one in the world and was the undisputed world champion from 2006-07.
“I am now retired from chess and not playing competitively anymore, but it means a lot to me that I can share my knowledge with the most promising juniors who can achieve something big in the future,” the Russian added.
