Kings XI Punjab are set to rope in South African batsman Hashim Amla as replacement for injured Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh. Marsh was ruled out of the IPL on Monday after aggravating the back injury he picked up during the team’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19.

According to espncricinfo, Kings XI Punjab have received the clearance for Amla's participation, and he will replace Shaun Marsh. Marsh has been carrying a niggle ever since he sustained an injury on April 19 and has finally decided to return back home on Monday after aggravating the injury.

His replacement, Hashim Amla, was part of the IPL auction with a base price of INR 1 crore, but none of the franchises showed any interest in the 33-year-old. In the recently concluded World T20, Amla scored 120 runs in four innings as South Africa were knocked out in the group stage of the competition.

Amla's arrival, however, may not do much to the fortunes of Kings XI, who are currently at the bottom of the IPL table with five defeats in their opening seven matches. Punjab skipper Murali Vijay will hope that Amla's arrival will bring about some change as they are set to take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
