Umesh Yadav joined the Kolkata Knight Riders training camp today and is likely to replace pacer Ankit Rajpoot for the game against Kings XI Punjab. Yadav missed the initial two games of the season after sustaining hip and back injuries towards the end of India’s grueling home season.

Umesh Yadav’s return to training is all set to bolster the Kolkata Knight Riders side, ahead of their third match of the season on April 13th. He posted a picture on Twitter from the Kolkata Knight Riders gym that was captioned, “Ami KKR......First day with my team training time

😊

”.

The Kolkata Knight Riders then retweeted the image saying, “Look who has joined the team!

Prior to his injury though, Yadav bowled with renewed vigor towards the end of India’s home Test season, to finish as the third highest wicket-taker for the country behind Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Yadav bowled extremely well in unfavorable conditions as he finished the series against Australia with 17 wickets.

The 29-year old is expected to come straight back into the Knight Riders playing 11 and take the place of Ankit Rajpoot for the game on Thursday. However, Kolkata have their task cut out against the Punjab side who’ve been in good form winning back-to-back games.

Yadav’s return is a timely boost for the two-time IPL champions, as they lost Chris Lynn to a shoulder injury against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday. The Aussie who scored a brilliant 93* to lead KKR to a commanding win over Gujarat Lions in their first game suffered this third shoulder injury in two years on Sunday. And Kolkata Knight Riders CEO, Venky Mysore, gave an update on his injury by tweeting, “All those anxious abt @lynny50. He aggravated an old injury. Being treated & under observation by @KKRiders team.”
