Axar Patel has claimed that current Indian team has the ability to win the 2019 ICC World Cup as the team enjoyed the unity which helped them perform better. The left-arm spinner made a stunning come back against Sri Lanka as he got 3 wickets and conceded only 34 runs yesterday.

With both bat and ball, India dominated the opening ODI in Dambulla on Sunday to clinch a victory by nine wickets. After spinners restricted the Lankans for a paltry total of 216 runs, Shikhar Dhawan's glorious run of form continued as he got his 11th ODI ton, sharing a 197-run stand with Virat Kohli (82*) as the duo made light work of the chase. After winning the match, Jasprit Bumrah holds the mic and performed as a reporter and interviewed Axar Patel and asked him about his experience in the match.

Sharing his happiness on his bowling performance, Patel said, “I am really happy to be back in the team after six or seven months, I was not too worried about making a comeback, I thought that I would continue the same way as I used to perform earlier when playing for India."

Sri Lanka tried to put some pressure at the initial stage of the game as they built up a partnership of 74 runs for the first wicket. Jasprit asked Axar about his planning during that situation.

“Initially I planned to contain the Sri Lankan batsmen as they were scoring at a high rate and even I needed two overs to settle down, then I decided to go for wickets and felt really good when I got my first wicket after two overs,” the 23-year-old explained.

After a fantastic performance of the bowling department, Shikhar Dhawan showed his charismatic batting ability along with Kohli as he scored unbeaten 132.

“Really happy to see Dhawan score and he deserved the man of the match and it feels good when the entire team is performing to their level best in every department, and are not dependent on individuals.”

Patel returned to team India after a few months gap and is literally happy after watching the camaraderie that players have among them. The Gujarat all-rounder believes that if the team can keep this up, they can win the 2019 World Cup to be held in London.

“All players are young with the average age of 26-27 so I think this is a main factor and everyone is enjoying each other’s company. There is unity in the team which is helping us to gel up together so I think this team will win the 2019 ICC World Cup,” the slow left-armer said.
