Rohit Sharma has batted for the newcomers and stated that they need respect and support from the Indian team management which will be helpful for the players to adjust with the team. He also believes that youngsters also need a fair amount of international matches to prove themselves.

Washington Sundar, Basil Thampi, and Deepak Hooda are the players who recently received their maiden T20I call-up and the first two are more than likely to get a chance to secure a place in the team. Sundar, Hooda, and Thampi had experience of playing the Indian Premier League and shared the dressing room with some senior Indian and international players. But that, however, doesn't take the jitters away from and Rohit rightly observed that the new players need management’s respect and support which will be helpful for them in their growth as a cricketer.

“It is important that the team management give the newcomers all the respect and support. I remember when I came into the team it was all that is required. They have played enough and I don’t want to put any extra pressure on them,” he said as quoted by The Hindu.

“It will be all about living in the moment, living the dream of playing for India. Because not many people get the opportunity to play for India.”

Ahead of the all-important South Africa tour, management decided to give rest to regular skipper Virat Kohli and chose Rohit to play the skipper’s role in his absence. The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be the maiden game in which he will lead the hosts as a captain. But the 30-year-old had the experience of leading Mumbai Indians in the IPL where the team successfully won three IPL titles.

“It will be completely a different ball game but the process and basics of captaincy remain the same. I don’t need to change anything. I just need to carry from where we left as a team. I will make changes when necessary,” the right-hand batsman said.

In the recent past, the Team India management has been following the rotation policy as they keeping an eye on the 2019 World Cup and for that, they wanted a stable and strong squad. In the process of checking their bench strength, they gave chances to young players in the place of the regulars of the team. Rohit opined that before taking a decision on player’s career they should be given enough number of games.

“It is important to give these guys a fair amount of games before they prove themselves. Shreyas (Iyer), Manish (Pandey) and Dinesh (Karthik) haven’t got enough games on the trot and as a team management we want to make sure they get it.”
