While bowling a no-ball is a common sight, it was all the more frustrating for any team when they were denied a wicket because of the illegitimate delivery. For Jasprit Bumrah, this happened for the second time this year, as Upul Tharanga survived despite gifting a catch to Dinesh Karthik at gully.

India were handed a defeat in the 2017 Champions Trophy final after a century by Fakhar Zaman, who had been dismissed on a no-ball by Bumrah, in the early stages of the game. However, it seems like he hasn't learnt his lesson yet.

On the penultimate ball of the sixth over of the Lankan run-chase, Bumrah got some seam movement from down the leg side that squared Tharanga completely and took the outside edge of the blade towards gully region where Karthik was stationed. The Tamil Nadu star went down and took a good low catch to send Tharanga packing. Or so he thought. However, the team’s joy lasted just a few seconds as umpire Anil Chaudhary instantly went upstairs to check for a no-ball. The replays suggested that his foot was just on the line and Tharanga was given another lifeline.

The repeated offence is bound to raise questions on Bumrah’s continued problems while managing the popping crease. He needs to do away with that problem sooner rather than later in order to be successful in the forthcoming South Africa tour where a small mistake might result in India losing a lot, just as it happened for India in the finals of the Champions Trophy.
