IPL

From now, the Indian Premier League will be a part of the ICC Future Tours Programme and no other series will be played during the cash-rich league in the upcoming period of 2019-2023. This development means the IPL will now become the only domestic event to be included in the FTP.

The cash-rich league of India finally got its place in the new FTP as a global event and during the time of the league, all international cricket will take a break. According to Cricinfo, an integral ICC document that lists all the tournaments from 2019-23 also includes the IPL dates, along with other ICC events. It is learned that BCCI has submitted the list for IPL, and it will be played from late March to May, and only two other small series might coincide with the Indian event.

From the introduction of the IPL, it has become the most engaging, entertaining and powerful tournament on the cricket circuit. International players prefer the league over their home cricket. Despite its growing impact on the international calendar, the ICC were against handing a separate window in the international circuit because doing so means it would need to consider a similar allowance for the other domestic T20 tournaments.

According to the events document, the 2018 edition of the IPL will begin on April 4 and end with the final on May 27. The IPL dates for a five-year cycle in the FTP (between 2019-23) are April 3 to May 26 (2019), April 1 to May 31 (2020), March 31 to May 30 (2021), March 30 to May 29 (2022), March 29 to May 28 (2023).

The documents also state that the 2019 World Cup will start just four days after the IPL, and the final will be held on July 14. Australia will host 2020 T20I World Cup, which would be held from October 24 to November 15. While India hosts the Champions Trophy in 2021 between October 21 to November 14, the 2023 World Cup will take place from February 9 to March 26. Asia Cup has also received fixed dates for the next three editions and will be played from September 15 to 30 in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

The dates are virtually confirmed but still, there is a question mark on the IPL dates because as per the judgment of the Supreme Court of India, Indian cricket team can’t play any international cricket 15 days before and after the IPL.
