Everyone and their pet dog know how dangerous Rohit Sharma can be once he gets going and his two double centuries in ODI cricket are a testimony to the same. Today, he showcased his prowess once again by hitting six sixes in seven balls on his way to score his third double century in ODIs.

Rohit started the innings in a typical fashion and took time to settle down, but the signs that he was in for something special came when he seemed unfazed about the length balls and hit them for boundaries with ease. However, in the 44th over, the Indian skipper started the carnage which was not so dissimilar to the innings that he had played against the same opponents at the Eden Gardens, almost three years ago.

On the second ball of the 44th over, Lakmal bowled a full toss on his pads which Rohit was more than happy to smash it over the long-on fence after shuffling across his crease. Lakmal felt the pressure on the next delivery and bowled a wide, but the Mumbaikar had the momentum on his side and whipped the next "legal" delivery over the deep square leg fence. The ball then found its way into the stands behind the backward square leg and deep midwicket on consecutive balls. Despite being in the form that he was in, Rohit, somehow, managed to miss the last ball of the over.

However, he made up for it in the next over, when the visitors would have hoped for a change in fortune, but Nuwan Pradeep also suffered the same fate as the 30-year-old got across the off stump line and swept the ball over the short fine leg fence for a maximum before he swung his willow once again to hit another one over long-on.

The six sixes in the space of seven balls was a classic demonstration of how ruthless the Indian opener can be if you don’t get him out cheaply. Also if there was any iota of doubt regarding his place among the modern-day greats, this innings has surely helped in putting that to rest.
