India and Bangladesh witnessed one of the closest run-out decisions in recent history as Mushfiqur Rahim was given the benefit of doubt by third umpire today. Even after watching the replay quite a few times, it would have still required a flip of a coin to decide between the red and green button.

The incident occurred in the 50th over of the Bangladesh innings when Shakib Al Hasan came down the track to push an Ashwin delivery to mid-off. It appeared to be an easy single but Rahim was slow off his mark. The ball fell to Ravindra Jadeja who sent a good throw to the striker's end.

Rahim, who put in a dive, appeared to have made his crease but after the bat crossed the line, it rose in the air giving Wriddhiman Saha the opportunity to get a run out. While the bat appeared to be in the air when Saha made contact with the stumps, the bails had not completely come out of the groove.

The commentators all felt that it was out but third umpire Chris Gaffaney took more than a minute to arrive at a conclusion. The Kiwi umpire, eventually, decided to side with the batsman, apparently awarding the benefit of doubt.

Having seen the replay a good many times ourselves, we, too, have been unable to make up our minds.
