WATCH: Mehedi Hasan savours interaction with R Ashwin

After India's 208-run victory over Bangladesh in the one-off Test, young offspinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz paid a visit to the Indian dressing room to discuss the art of spin bowling with R Ashwin. The No. 1 Test bowler did not hold back and the youngster says he left the room much wiser.

Indian spinners are currently ruling world cricket - Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are currently the top two in the ICC rankings table. So it's not surprising that other young spinners around the world look up to them.

Mehedi Hasan, Bangladesh's latest off-pin sensation has shown a lot of promise taking 19 wickets in his first two Tests against England, including the wicket of Alastair Cook 3 times in 4 innings. So, when Hasan got a chance to talk to Ashwin, he ensured he made full use of the opportunity.

“He is the world’s No. 1 bowler. I follow his bowling closely to see what he does in different situations. How he sets up a batsman and how he plans for his wickets. Whenever India play, I watch the match for him,” Meheditold BCCI.TV.

After India completed a 208-run win in what was Bangladesh's first-ever Test match on Indian soil, Mehedi Hasan came to the Indian dressing room for a one-on-one chat with Ashwin. Ashwin, too, did not hold back and answered all the questions that the youngster had.

“I was looking forward to meet him ever since the time we landed in India. After the match, I asked him how to handle certain situations. I have no experience of match situations. He encouraged me. He said I had the potential to have a long and successful international career and advised me to work really hard. He has so many variations, so I asked him about his different deliveries,” Mehedi said.

“I am very happy today that I got to meet Ashwin and even Virat Kohli later. Ashwin has done so well in the last few years and has so much experience. I had an excellent time with him. His tips are going to be very useful.”

The young bowler has played just five Test matches, and this session with Ashwin would help him in playing a lot more. “I have a high arm action and can bowl in good areas, which are my plus points. I want to add more variety and vary my pace. I spoke to Ashwin about it. He told me to stick to my strengths. His advice was to follow my instincts and bowl in the manner I feel most comfortable in,” added the 19-year-old.
