Australian batting legend Mike Hussey has hailed his former CSK captain MS Dhoni as a great leader who always brought calmness to his teammates on the field. Hussey also opined that it was a right decision by Dhoni to step down as the captain with Indian cricket in a strong position.

MS Dhoni's leadership skills have always been marvelled at by cricketers all over the world and having played under his captaincy for eight seasons at Chennai Super Kings, former Australian batsman Mike Hussey has heaped praise on Dhoni's leadership skills.

"Dhoni was an inspirational leader and I loved playing under him. He gave the players perspective and made them realise that though cricket is important, it is not the most important thing in a person's life," Hussey told TOI on Saturday.

Despite all the trophies he has won both with India and CSK, Hussey felt that Dhoni's captaincy is down to his ability to instil calmness in his players.

"He has helped the Indian team to so much success in all forms of the game, but an even better person with a great family. His calmness...he had this amazing ability to help players relax, enjoy the game and not put too much pressure on themselves, which is not that easy in a place like India where cricket is a religion."

Having played three successful captains in his career-- Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Dhoni, the 41-year-old said all three were great in their own ways.

"They all led according to their personalities and were all very good in their own ways," he said.

Australia's “Mr. Cricket” also opined that Dhoni decision to step down from captaincy came at the right time with the Indian cricket in a strong position.

"He obviously thinks this is the best time for the team and for Indian cricket to move on," Hussey said.
