Babar Azam becomes joint-fastest player to score 1000 ODI runs

Pakistani sensation Babar Azam reached the 1000-run mark in ODIs after scoring 84 against Australia in the 3rd ODI at Perth on Thursday. Azam crossed the landmark in 21 innings, joining the likes of Sir Vivian Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, and Quinton de Kock in an exclusive club.

Babar Azam once again came to Pakistan’s rescue today with a fine knock of 84 runs, off 100 deliveries, as they posted a total of 263 after being asked to bat first by Australia. The 22-year-old, who has been hyped up as one of the best talents Pakistan have produced recently, now boasts of 1037 runs in just 21 ODI innings. He has now equaled the record, also held by Sir Vivian Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, and Quinton de Kock, for the fastest to reach the 1000-run mark.

The youngster came into the ODI series needing 114 runs within the first two matches to break the record created by Sir Viv Richards almost 36 years back. However, he scored 33 in the first ODI at Melbourne which Australia won by 92 runs, while he managed 34 in the second ODI where Pakistan chased down a target of 221 to level the series.
