England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan has insisted that pacer Stuart Broad is in contention for a place in the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy in England. Morgan has been impressed by the way Broad has performed in the BBL after playing only two limited over games for England in 2016.

The call for Stuart Broad to return in England’s ODI and T20 side has gained momentum after the English attack’s struggle in the ongoing ODI series against India. When asked if Broad is being considered for the upcoming Champions Trophy, set to be played in England from June 1 to June 18, the Independent quoted the English skipper saying, "Stuart's always in our thoughts. He hasn't played since the South Africa tour last year but I thought he charged in at the Big Bash.

"I've watched all his games and he's working on his variations. It's very difficult for him to go straight from Test cricket to playing in the Big Bash but he's made a fist of it, so credit to him.

"He wants to play more white-ball cricket, and he certainly could be an option for the future."

Stuart Broad, who has featured in 121 ODIs for England, last appeared in a 50-overs game last year in February against South Africa in Cape Town. His last T20 appearance for England was in 2014 against the Netherlands. However, the 30-year-old has impressed for the Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing BBL, picking up seven wickets in seven outings.

The current ODI bowling attack that England possess has failed to make a mark in the subcontinent, and they have conceded 737 runs in the first two ODIs against India. Looking back at the narrow defeat in the 2nd ODI at Odisha, Morgan said, "We weren't at our best with the ball. We didn't produce our best performance - or anywhere near our best performance - this game or last which is disappointing.

"When you don't execute your plans you're back-tracking a bit and chasing your tail."

The England skipper, though, stood tall among his teammates with his blazing knock of 102 in 81 balls at the Barabati Stadium. However, Morgan, who has been under pressure recently, after opting out of the Bangladesh tour, feels there is no satisfaction in his personal achievements when the team loses.

"When you lose there's absolutely no satisfaction at all. It's a pretty disappointing day.

"You're captain, you're a professional cricketer and you're playing for your country. You want to perform, you have to perform, people want you to do it all the time. It's never going to happen," he added.
