Fearless opener Chris Gayle has been included in the 13-man West Indies team which will play a T20 international match against India at Sabina Park in Kingston on Sunday, July 9. He last played a T20 International for West Indies in April 2016, in the World T20 final against England in Kolkata.

After more than a year, the Jamaican opener got a place in the national side for the one-off Twenty20 International against India. The left-handed batsman is the highest run scorer for the Windies in the shortest format of the game with 1,519 runs in 50 matches which include two centuries and 13 half-centuries.

"We welcome Chris back to the T20 squad. He is the most prolific batsman in this format and will add value to our team at the top of the order. He will get the chance to play on his home ground and against a top-quality Indian team,ā€ said Courtney Browne, Cricket Windies' chairman of selectors, reported Cricbuzz.

"This squad has a good mix - experience within the batting and bowling - it is a well-balanced squad. Again, this is an opportunity for the young players to showcase their talent and for the experience players to perform and help nurture the young players," he further added.

In April this year, the 37-year-old also became the first batsman in the world to reach the landmark of the 10,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Carlos Brathwaite will lead the sideĀ for the only T20 international match against team India.

West Indies Squad: Carlos Brathwaite (C), Samuel Badree, Ronsford Beaton, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Chadwick Walton (wk), Kesrick Williams.
