Although there have been a few bad reviews ever since the Decision Review System has come into play, Dimuth Karunaratne has just raised the bar to a whole new level. During Sri Lanka's first innings, the opener opted to take a review which the third umpire himself labelled as a 'bad' one.

As they did on the opening day of the first Test, Sri Lanka struggled on the second day as well. After being made to toil for one and a half days, the Sri Lankan bowlers finally bowled out India for 600 runs in their first innings. In response, Dimuth Karunaratne and Upul Tharanga started the Lankan innings, but soon the team were in trouble as Dimuth Karunaratne was trapped in front by Umesh Yadav in just the second over.

Umesh Yadav bowled an in-swinging delivery which Karunaratne tried to flick but missed the ball completely. Though the ground umpire raised his finger to signal the wicket, Karunaratne went upstairs for a review. Karunaratne's decision came as surprise to everyone as they knew it was a bad decision on his part. And this was confirmed by the third umpire as he said on air, "This doesn't look like a great review, does it? Looks very much like it's hitting middle and leg stump."

The review result went in India's favour as and the Sri Lankan made his way toward dressing room after scoring only 2 runs.
