A BCCI official has revealed that the pressure is now on Virat Kohli to perform after Anil Kumble's resignation or will have to face the heat. The official also stated that after the CAC had spoken to the duo, they had decided to let Kumble carry on with his role as the head coach of the team.

"It has been given to understand that Kohli eventually had the veto power on the coach issue which pushed Kumble out of the team. Now that he has his way, he has to deliver as captain. Otherwise, he had it," the official told TOI.

The official also enlightened the media regarding Kohli's meeting with the Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) and BCCI officials where he had expressed his lack of trust in Anil Kumble but had agreed to work with him if forced to do so. Kumble, on the other hand, had dismissed the presence of any differences between him and Kohli in his meeting with the officials.

The CAC comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman then explained the whole scenario to the Committee of Administrators(CoA) who expressed their concern on the emergence of such differences again in the future. However, the CAC still backed Kumble to continue as the Indian coach.

"Since, Kohli had strong reservations against him, Kumble decided to gracefully leave the scene on his own," the official explained.

It was also revealed that Kumble's pep talk after India's loss at the hands of Pakistan in the final did not go down well with the team. Kumble had apparently educated the team on how wides and no-balls had cost them dearly in the match without being rude. Kohli had seconded his opinion but emphasized more on how well the team played on the road to final.

While a faction inside BCCI is criticising Kumble's timing of the talk, there are some in the BCCI who are supportive of Kumble's actions.
