In a new development in the hunt for the India’s next coach, CAC member Sachin Tendulkar took the matter into his hand to convince Ravi Shastri to apply for the coach’s job. Previously, Shastri refused to submit the application and demanded that the Indian board to guarantee his appointment.

Since the resignation of Anil Kumble from the position of India Head Coach, BCCI have been facing difficulting in having a good pool of candidates to choose from, for the role of the new coach. In their quest to more suitable aspirants, BCCI had earlier extended the deadline till July 9.And now, the little-master has stepped in and taken matters into his own hand. According to the TOI, the former Indian batsman spoke with Shastri, who is in London on a vacation, to consider his stand once again. Shastri’s name has now once again emerged as favorite to be appointed to the role because of his chemistry with Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Shastri was the director of the team from 2014 to 2016 and was then one of the front-runners in last year’s coach selection. And it was said that Tendulkar had backed Shastri during the last time selection procedure but Sourav Ganguly was more impressed by Kumble and the final decision was taken on the VVS Laxman’s vote, who selected Kumble for the Indian team.

Earlier, Shastri was not interested to apply for the role of the coach, and hence subsequently didn't apply when the first deadline for applications closed, because of the treatment he faced last year. But after Sachin's involvement, he has now agreed to apply.

Along with Shastri, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, two-time Pakistan coach Richard Pybus, Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput, and Ganesh Dodda are also in the race for the top job.
