Dinesh Karthik has been chosen to replace the injured Manish Pandey in the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The announcement was made by the BCCI on Twitter. India kick-starts their Champions Trophy defense with a highly-anticipated match against Pakistan on June 4th.
The BCCI confirmed the news of the last-minute change to the Indian squad with the following tweet.
Pandey sustained a left side strain during a training session with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing IPL 2017. Last night, Kolkata beat Hyderabad in a rain-hit eliminator encounter of IPL 2017 by 7 wickets and booked their playoff date against Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru tomorrow.
And now, The All-India Senior Selection Committee have named middle-order batsman and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik as Pandey’s replacement.
The move was confirmed in a mail sent by the Acting Hony. Secretary, Amitabh Choudhary of the BCCI.
The updated Indian squad for the Champions Trophy squad now reads as follows:
Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Dinesh Karthik.
