Indian team coach Anil Kumble and Indian skipper Virat Kohli may have a difference in opinion on the salary hike as proposed by Kumble. In a meeting with the BCCI Kumble suggested an extra allowance for Kohli. However, an official revealed that Kohli has not personally requested for a hike yet.

Indian coach Anil Kumble had suggested the Board of Control for Cricket in India to provide an extra allowance to skipper Kohli owing to the responsibilities that he shoulders. However, a senior BCCI official anonymously revealed that Kohli and Kumble were on different pages as far as a hike in salary of the contracted players and the extra allowance was concerned.

"Never would Virat Kohli be on the same page on the captain getting paid extra for discharging the captain's responsibility. In fact, I have personally had a word with him once or twice and he has always said that every player's interest should be taken care of, but especially those who play just one format should be priority.Ā Actually, Kumble wants to tag a few people just to strengthen his case. But his demand that the skipper be paid extra is mind-boggling," the official told Cricketnext.

On Thursday, the BCCI released a notification inviting applications for the post of the head coach of the Indian cricket team as Kumble's tenure is coming to an end after the Champions Trophy. This has been speculated by many as the portrayal of a rift between Kumble and the board.Ā

The Official further stated that Kumble's move demanding a 150% hike in players fees and a considerable increase in pay for himself and his support staff did not go down well with the board members.

"Kumble is trying to encash the success the team has achieved in the form of results during his tenure as coach. But what he is forgetting is that cricket is not an individual sport. The team and the players deserve as much credit as Kumble for the success achieved. He was a great player who represented the country with aplomb, but his bent of mind is financially motivated and even though his stature as a player is unquestionable, the same doesn't apply for his personal nature," the official said.
According to the official, Kumble's proposal regarding the hike would further increase the disparity between the salaries of the players.

"Going by his presentation, if some of the players are given the amount of money that he expects them to be given, then two or three players will get what a state association gets and that is not acceptable. Also, even though BCCI is one of the richest boards in the world, one has to realize the BCCI also has huge expenditure and the end profit isn't huge. For example, former cricketers male and female are given pension as are officials. Do you realize the amount of money that goes into the initiative? We can't deprive them to fulfill demands of present personnel," the BCCI official said.

Did you know, Both AB De Villiers and Virat Kohli were the second pair of batsmen in T20 history to score centuries in a single T20.
