After the second ODI win in Kolkata, Virat Kohli has heaped praise on the wrist-spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav terming them as “outstanding” players. He also seemed excited about the depth in the squad which has resulted in him having multiple options in every position.

These are great times to be a wrist spinner in India as the performances of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have proved that their kind is increasingly becoming a dominant force in limited-overs cricket. The biggest advantage for wrist spinners is their ability to take the pitch out of the equation as using their hand, they can generate turn even from docile pitches. Yadav and Chahal bring that trait to the fore and have remained successful in getting wickets almost in every match. The Indian skipper seemed to be excited by the duo's performance and lavished praise on them.

"They are outstanding, they are two young guys bowling with a lot of heart, getting us those breakthroughs against a top quality side... I think it speaks volumes about their character," said Kohli in the post-match presentation.

The fact that Australia are taking Kuldeep so seriously is a testament to his rise over the last few months. The tourists got a first-hand experience of his capability when the chinaman bowler tormented them in the Dharamsala Test earlier this year, running through their batting order with four wickets in the first innings that set up a series-clinching win. Similarly, Chahal has always remained as one of the best wicket-taking options for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and he made a seamless transition from that format to the national team whenever he has been given a chance. Due to their subtle variations, no wonder Indian team management is backing them to play a big part in the upcoming limited-overs series.

"We know they will do us good service, in the future games as well. That keeps the competition going among the 20-25 players that we have.

"Looking at the World Cup in a couple of years time, that really augurs well for us, how the team is shaping up. It's a good balance of bowling and batting," concluded Kohli.
