Harbhajan Singh predicts an Australian whitewash in India

Harbhajan Singh has predicted that India can inflict a first-ever ODI whitewash on Australia in the ongoing limited over series where the hosts have already taken an unassailable 3-0 lead. He also compared Australia's performance to that of Sri Lankan, who lost 9 straight games to India last month.

Under Virat Kohli's guidance, Team India inflicted 9-0 whitewash on Sri Lanka as they won three Tests, five ODIs and a T20I in the last series. They have maintained the winning momentum in the ongoing limited over series against the Aussies and are not just two wins away from registering yet another whitewash - their first against Australia. Harbhajan has voiced his confidence in India's abilities to walk into the history books over the next two matches.

“The kind of cricket Australia is playing it appears as if Sri Lankans are playing in yellow clothing. I haven’t seen that Australian thing from them here. And whatever I know of Virat and his team they will be looking for nothing less than 5-0,” the 37-year-old old Sportstak.

The Australia batting unit showed some sort of resistance in the third ODI where David Warner (42), Aaron Finch (124), and Steve Smith (63) laid the foundations for a late onslaught 50 overs. But the middle order could only manage 59 runs in the last 10 overs that took the score to a sub-par 293. The Indian batsmen were able to chase it down with consummate ease as Australia succumbed to their 11th away loss in 13 games - the other two being abandoned in the Champions Trophy.

“Look it’s obvious the Australian side that I competed against, the top 7 or 8 blokes were all match winners. Anyone could come in and win a match in his own right or score a hundred. They had that ability,” Harbhajan added.

“I don’t think in this Australian side anyone other than Finch or Warner or to some degree Steve Smith can take the team forward. The middle order does not know to rotate the strike. When they go for big shots, they do it taking big risks. This team is not a shadow of that Australian side.

“We can’t forget this Australian team lost to Bangladesh recently. So there’s something wrong somewhere. Something seriously wrong."
