Day is not far when Rohit Sharma will score the first double ton in T20s, says Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly has backed Mumbai-born batsman Rohit Sharma, who has already scored three double-tons in the ODI format, to soon set a new record by becoming the first batsman to score a double-ton in a T20s. Ganguly has also opened up a bit about his issues with former Indian coach Greg Chappell.
Sourav Ganguly teamed up with Sachin Tendulkar Between 1992 and 2007, as the duo established one of the most successful periods of Indian cricket during that time. Tendulkar and Ganguly batted together in 176 ODI innings and amassed a record 8,227 runs at an impressive average of 47.55.
The duo teamed up together once more at the launch event of Ganguly’s latest book, ‘A century is not enough’ where the ‘Prince of Kolkata’ was joined by other cricketing superstars and former colleagues as well. One of them was Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma, who Ganguly spoke of very highly.
“Sachin scored first hundred in ODI and taking inspiration from him, Rohit has gone on to score three double centuries in ODIs. The day is not far when we will see him scoring the first double century in T20s too,” Ganguly said at the event.
Ganguly went on to answer questions about an extremely strenuous part of his career. He spoke about his fallout with then Indian coach Greg Chappell and highlighted how that whole saga helped him grow as a cricketer and a human being.
“A big part of success in cricket, in any sport is how you handle your failures and tough situations. What happened during those days in Indian cricket was unfortunate but after losing my place in the team, I worked really hard to make a comeback. And when I finally made a comeback, I was much stronger mentally. I batted well in the last four years of my career and in fact, Sachin always says that those four years were the best period of my life as a batsman,” the 46-year-old said.
