CA chairman David Peever has stated that the younger generation look up to the Australian crickets as role models of the country. He has also confirmed that CA chief executive, James Sutherland will not be stepping down from his post and is not subject to the cultural and independent review.

There is no doubt there is a crisis going on in Australian cricket at the moment. The three players, Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft revealed that they will not be contesting against the sanctions imposed against them.

Cricket Australia (CA) on April 6 (Friday) announced that there will be a wide-range investigation into the culture of Australia's cricket team. Even though there was a primary investigation, which took place after the ball-tampering incident, David Peever, Cricket Australia (CA) chairman announced that there is a need to further dig into the context around the incident, and whether the cultural issues would need to be addressed.

The chairman confirmed that the former Australian Test batsman Rick McCosker will be involved in an independent review into cultural, organisational and governance issues in cricket. He will start the player-driven process in order to establish a ‘charter’ that sets out standards of behaviour and expectations of the Australian men's teams.

“It is anticipated that this process will include assessments as to whether changes to codes and standards governing player conduct are required. Australian cricketers are role models for our young people and ambassadors for our country. Cricket fans and the Australian public rightly have high expectations regarding the standards of behaviour of our national teams. The independent review will provide an important foundation for ensuring these expectations are met,” Peever was quoted saying by Cricbuzz.

Sutherland has also been under a lot of pressure. There were calls made by the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) for conduct and culture review for the Cricket Australia heads as well. However, Peever confirmed that Sutherland was not facing any uncertainty.

“James Sutherland's position is not under review, he continues to retain the full support of the board," he said. "In this crisis ... (Sutherland) has done an outstanding job. I know that when the time comes for James to make a decision about what he wants to do in regards to his role in Cricket Australia, he will be remembered as one of the best servants of cricket in this country,” the CA chairman added.

Cricket Australia was also under-fire due to the entire ball-tampering episode. A lot of people get sacked in these situations, but CA has acted smartly and has not let the emotions get the better of them.

“I think we're all going to come under the microscope in terms of what is occurring back in the organisation that might have contributed to this. But I can tell you this: circumstances like this are not the time for witch-hunts. I know people in these circumstances call for everybody to be sacked. Clearly, that isn't going to solve any problems,” he admitted.

Smith and Warner face a 12-month ban while Bancroft has been suspended for 9 months. The hatred for the three players has grown in the Australian public and it will be quite difficult for them to win the trust of the fans once again.

“I hope that all players can successfully rebuild their career. I also hope they can eventually win back the trust of cricket fans and the Australian public,” Peever said.
